Chabahar Agreement

In the 1990s, Iran and India cooperated with Russia to support the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan against the Pakistani-backed Taliban. At that time, Iran invited India to develop the port of Chabahar in order to obtain preparatory access to Afghanistan. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s recent visit to Iran has done much, at least on paper. The conclusion of a trilateral agreement with Afghanistan and Iran on the development of the port of Chabahar is of the utmost importance to India.
